Intense cold wave grips Kashmir,Ladakh

SRINAGAR: Unwavering sub-zero temperature controlled Kashmir, where Pahalgam and Gulmarg tourist resorts were the coldest places, even as the mercury in Kargil hovered around 20 degrees below freezing point overnight.

Night temperature across Kashmir were several degrees below freezing point as region was in the grip of an intense cold wave, a MeT department official said here today.

Pahalgam recorded minus 10.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature in Gulmarg was minus 10.2 degrees Celsius .

The minimum temperature in Kargil town of Ladakh region settled at minus 20.4 degrees Celsius while Leh witnessed a low of minus 19.1 degrees Celsius , the official said.

Srinagar city witnessed a slightly warmer night at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius , an increase of 0.2 degrees than yesterday.

Qazigund froze at minus 6.6 degrees Celsius while the night temperature in Kokernag was minus 4.4 degrees Celsius Kupwara recorded a low of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius .
