New Delhi: A powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan at 1:53 am am on Wednesday. Preliminary reports suggest that the epicentre of the earthquake was in Southwest Pakistan.
The immediate extent of devastation was unknown though the tremors were felt as far as Delhi. Apart from the national capital, tremors were also felt in some parts of Haryana, and Jaipur and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
Local TV reports in Pakistan said the earthquake was felt in several provinces in the country.
Earthquakes often rattle the region. A magnitude 7.6 quake on October 8, 2005, killed about 80,000 people in northwestern Pakistan and Kashmir and left more than 3 million homeless.
