Pune: In what could be a major setback for India's first and largest planned hill city being built at Lavasa, the Union Environment Ministry on Monday finalised its report on the project and has according to sources said that "status quo must be maintained at the site till a final order is given by the Bombay High Court."
The Environment Ministry is expected to submit its reply to the Bombay High Court today.
Several environmentalists including Medha Patkar had complained to the ministry about the Rs 3000 crore-Lavasa hill city project which they said was being built in violation of several environmental laws. Lavasa Corporation is owned by Hindustan Construction Company (HCC).
On December 7, the Bombay High Court had stayed the status quo notice issued by the Environment Ministry to Lavasa Corporation.
