Former Japan PM Hatoyama meets Manmohan Singh

FORMER JAPANESE Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, who is on a two-day visit to India, met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today. Hatoyama also met Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma.During the meeting, both leaders discussed bilateral trade and investment policies between the countries. On Tuesday, Hatoyama will visit Mumbai where he is expected to meet industrialist Mukesh Ambani.Hatoyama along with five Japanese delegates also had a brief meeting with top officials of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMIC-DC).In the meeting, Hatoyama expressed his intention to enhance Japan's involvement in the DMIC-DC, and said the project will be a model of cooperation between both the countries. The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor is a mega infrastructure project of 90 billion dollars with financial and technical aids from Japan, covering a length of 1,483 kilometers between the cities of Delhi in the north and Mumbai in the west.Hatoyama is in India in connection with the three-day 2011 India-Japan Global Partnership Summit 2011, which will be held in September 5.The India-Japan Global Partnership Summit 2011 is aimed at enhancing socio-economic, cultural and spiritual bonding between the two nations.It is also aimed at strengthening economic ties, greater regional integration and multilateral trade between the two countries.
