ED notice to MP IAS couple for FEMA violations

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday served a notice to tainted Madhya Pradesh IAS couple Tinu and Arvind Joshi for Foreign Exchange violations.

Both of them were accused of purchasing benami property in the name of an NRI relative.

During a raid at their residence foreign currency disproportionate to their income was recovered and Rs 3 crore was also found.

Some crucial documents pertaining to unaccounted investments were also seized.

Both the IAS officers of the 1979 batch have held important posts. While Tinu was the Deputy Secretary in the PMO from 1988 till 1990, Arvind was Joint Secretary in the Defence Ministry during the Kargil war.

The Income Tax department has claimed to have detected wealth valued at a whopping Rs 360 crore from suspended Madhya Pradesh IAS officer couple Arvind and Tinu Joshi and disproportionate to their known source of income.
