CBI questions three main accused in Adarsh Society scam

THE CENTRAL Bureau of Investigation questioned three main accused in the controversial Adarsh Housing Society scam on Thursday at the CBI office at Colaba in South Mumbai. CBI confronted Congress MLC Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, president of the Adarsh society Brigadier Madan Mohan Wanchoo and the chief promoter of the society R C Thakur.Earlier on Suday, CBI raided the residences and offices of Gidwani, Wanchu and Thakur and seized several incriminating files, documents and laptops. The CBI had filed an FIR against 13 people in the Adarsh Housing Society scam case on Saturday including Wanchu, Gidwani and Thakur. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was also one amongst the 13 accused named in the FIR. The Central Bureau of Investigation stated in the FIR that accused K L Gidwani, M M Wanchoo and R C Thakur conspired with the members of defence services officers, officials and functionaries of the government of Maharashtra.Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was forced to resign over his alleged involvement in the in the Adarsh Society. The 31-storey Adarsh Housing Society scam came to light after Western Naval Commander Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin shot off a letter to the Army headquarters and the Defence Ministry seeking action against the building for posing a security threat to military installations.
