Six killed in a road accident in Orissa

AS MANY as six persons were killed in a road mishap near Rambha in Ganjam district of Orissa on Wednesday (February 2).

According to sources, one Tata carrier going towards Sabulia near Rambhacollided with a truck at Ainthabana near Rambha, in which six personswerekilled.

While five including Laxman Behera, his wife Nakshetra Behera of Rambha, Ganapati Behera, Rabindra Das and Mokara Behera of Kumarpalli village, succumbed to the injurieson thespot inside the TATA carrier, some others were shifted to the nearby hospital, where another person was declared dead. Among the dead people, most of them belonged to a local artist group performing Paala.
Meanwhile, locals in the area lodged a protest against the officials for failing to check accidents, which are increasingly taking place. They asked the state administration to increase the number of traffic policemen on the roads to ensure that traffic remained under control and violations by vehicles if any were checked. Here it is pertinent to mention that Indian has the highest number of deaths due to road accidents as there is lax implementation of the rules. The mix of the vehicles on the roads, which comprise cycles, rickshaws, bullock carts, increasing number of cars and heavy duty vehicles is a lethal mix, which results in fatal road accidents.
